The 2013 Regional Prices Index is produced by the Department of Regional Development to identify the cost of living in the regions. The index comprises a ‘basket’ of 500 goods and services to compare the prices of those items between regional areas and Perth. Items are weighted to reflect the relative importance of the different goods and services and the index is produced every two years.
The following figure summarises the 2013 results. The Index shows that the overall prices in the Kimberley have fallen since 2011 by 5.3% but that on average the Kimberley as a whole is 14.7% more expensive than Perth.
